Tour Post - Day One - The Amgen People's Coast Classic

Day One: Sunday, September 11 – Astoria to Tillamook

It’s the Start! Day One of The Amgen People’s Coast Classic began around 6:30am (and probably earlier for Gina and her catering crew) with the setup at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. The DuVine support team, volunteers, Arthritis Foundation staff, and Bike Newport, who will keep the bikes rolling were all ready as riders started arriving at the start to the fantastic smells of breakfast being cooked!

During breakfast everyone was able to catch up, get a few last minute tweaks to their bikes and of course get the big group photo taken as well as some team photos. At 8:30am things started getting official with the safety talk, information about the days attractions and stops and thanks being given to all of the riders and people who had made the ride possible, especially Amgen, our main sponsor.

At 9:00am it all began with an exhilarating mass start, the blue, orange and black striped riders where heading out on their 350+ mile journey with the crew of support people bringing up the rear. The 67 mile ride finished up in Tillamook with campfires, games, music and food, and of course the arthritis information road show, just what was needed after a day of biking.

All in all it was a good day, riders got used to the road, Bike Newport got a chance to fix a few flat tires along the road and the support team got its first taste of working together as a team and getting in sync as they all moved down the Oregon Coast.

Up next, Day Two it’s the longest day at 80+ miles and takes us from Tillamook to Newport, stay tuned for more on The Amgen People’s Coast Classic!

Thanks to our Sponsors!
