Saturday was arrival day for The Amgen People's Coast Classic on the beautiful Oregon Coast, spectacular weather on what locals have deemed the best weather day of the year. The mouth of the Columbia River is historically foggy and wet, so crystal clear skies was a blessing and surprise.
Riders, volunteers and support staff left Portland on a motorcoach and arrived in Astoria to set up camp, where Rogue Ales threw us a huge Welcome Party. We were also greeted by the Astoria Convention and Visitors Bureau with welcome packs and gifts, which just goes to show how important TAPCC is becoming to the various towns along the route.Once the riders got checked in and settled the support teams and volunteers got together in order to hash out the last of the details before the big kickoff on Sunday morning. So far there was only one route change resulting from a bit of a landslide, although there were a few riders who commented on our Facebook page that they would be happy to ride through the rubble!

So, the ride officially starts Sunday morning with a 67 mile route, where we overnight in Tillamook, home of the famous cheese. Everyone is really excited as this represents close to a year of planning and fundraising, so stay tuned to our blog posts, Facebook updates and Twitter account where we will fill you in on each day’s ride.
